Welcome to Module 1
You picked the right course. Here’s what’s about to happen.
You are not going to understand everything right away. That’s not a problem. That’s normal. Tax prep is a skill, and skills take time. The people who get good at this aren’t the ones who memorized the most rules. They’re the ones who asked the most questions and kept showing up.
So here’s my one rule for this course: slow down and ask questions. When something doesn’t make sense, stop. Read it again. Ask why. Don’t rush to the next lesson just to say you finished it. The goal isn’t to finish. The goal is to actually know this stuff when a real client sits down in front of you.
Every lesson in this course is built around real people. Not “Taxpayer A” or “John and Mary.” Real people with real jobs and real tax situations — Amazon Anthony, Marcus who drives Uber on weekends, Rosa with her lunch truck, DeShawn the house painter, Elena the single mom.
You’re going to follow these people through their tax situations all the way through the course. By the end, you won’t just know the rules — you’ll know how to apply them to actual human beings sitting across from your desk.
Each lesson is a story first, a lesson second. The concept comes out of the story — not the other way around. That’s how you actually remember it.
Read it out loud sometimes. Seriously. When you read tax concepts out loud, you find out quickly which words you actually understand and which ones you’re just skimming past. If you can’t say it out loud in plain English, you don’t know it yet.
Write down the things that surprise you. Every lesson has at least one thing that surprises people the first time they see it. Those surprises are the things your clients are also going to be surprised by. Write them down. Those are the conversations you’re going to have at your desk.
Don’t skip the scenarios. Every Real Office Scenario in this course is based on something that actually happens in a tax office. Read them like you’re the preparer in the room. What would you do? What would you say? That’s the practice.
Take the quiz seriously. The quiz at the end of each module isn’t just a checkbox. It’s the test of whether you actually retained what you read. If you get questions wrong, go back to that lesson before moving on. Don’t just click through to the next module.
This course was built in Ruskin, Florida by someone who still sits across from clients every single tax season. I didn’t build this from a textbook. I built it from twenty-five years of real appointments, real questions, real mistakes, and real clients who trusted me with their tax situations.
Everything in here is something I actually needed to know to do this job. Nothing is filler. Nothing is in here just to look thorough. If it’s in this course, it’s because you’re going to use it.
Let’s get started.
